Recently, the cyber cell of North-west Delhi, the national capital police has busted a gang. This gang was allegedly cheating people and involving them in a scam, online. The master-mind of this entire gang routes to Dubai.
According to the police, the incident came into notice after a woman who was tricked into depositing over Rs,17,000/- into a Paytm account had filed an online complaint online. She was tricked into transferring such a huge amount of money as she was being offered a mobile phone through a group on Telegram
The victim complained to the police that she had not received any mobile phone. The woman further said that she could not reach the alleged person over the call as that number had been blocked. She further added that later she contacted the Paytm authority to get details about the transaction. This was the first complaint that the police had received. Later, the police received four such very similar complaints which were by the same alleged Paytm account holder.
The team then successfully tracked down one of the accused. One of the accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar Maurya (24 years) who is a resident of Vikaspuri, Delhi. He works in the Human Resources department in the HDFC bank located at Gurugram. Police have now arrested him through his bank account details that were used during those online transactions.
With the help of further investigation and interrogation, the accused confessed that he was involved in the offense. He also disclosed that he is a member of a gang that indulges in various kinds of online frauds which are masterminded by his brother who resides in Dubai.
This gang offered cheap sets of mobile phones to victims using the Telegram. They received the money from the victims using Paytm. Once the victim used to deposit the money successfully, they would block the victim and cut all related contacts.
The police have said that further investigation is still going on.
