Australia might be quite prone to cyber-attacks; fears run high as a severe cyber-attack has dismantled live broadcasts on the country’s one of the leading TV channels, namely Channel Nine TV network. The broadcaster could not air quite a few shows on Sunday.

Later, Channel Nine said that it has started an investigation of the cyber-attack and verified if the hack was "criminal sabotage or the work of a foreign nation." In fact, the Australian parliament was confirming a cyber-attack that is most likely to take place in Canberra on March 28th.

Assistant Defense Minister Andrew Hastie had severed all access to IT and emails at Parliament House to safeguard sensitive data of the nation. The minister has said to have done so in response to issues impacting an “external provider.”

"This is a timely reminder that Australians cannot be complacent about their cyber-security," Assistant Defense Minister Andrew Hastie informed on Sunday.

He further stated, "The government acted quickly, and we have the best minds in the world working to ensure Australia remains the most secure place to operate online."

This is, however, unclear whether the massive outage that occurred in the Australian Parliament and the recent attack on Channel Nine are linked.

In 2020, Prime Minister Scott Morrison alerted that sophisticated foreign “state-based” threat actors target various organizations in Australia.

In 2019, a significant cyber-attack was launched against Australia’s parliament and her political parties. According to Australian cyber intelligence experts, only a counted few countries who are not in good friendly terms with Australia and have the capacity to launch such sophisticated cyber-attack are China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.

Channel Nine TV network confirmed on Sunday night that there had been a "cyberattack on their systems."

"Our IT teams are working around the clock to fully restore our systems which have primarily affected our broadcast and corporate business units. Publishing and radio systems continue to be operational," the company mentioned in a public statement.

A senior journalist for the network, Mark Burrows, informed in a report that arrived a little later that the company was "under attack by hackers". He concluded that several emails and many editing systems had also gone down.

"I'm not surprised," Mr. Andrew Hastie, the assistant defense minister, informed Channel Nine TV network. "Last year alone, we had 60,000 reports to Australian cyber-security of cyber-crime. That's one every 10 minutes."

Meanwhile, Channel Nine instructed all its employees to work from home until they were asked to return to their office premises. And finally, the Channel successfully aired all its shows on Monday.
